A: Lumens (symbol: lm) measure the total amount of visible light emitted by a lamp or light source that is perceivable to the human eye. The higher the lumen output, the brighter the lamp will appear.
A: The ideal LED light for work areas combines high brightness (8,000 to 20,000 lumens), a daylight to cool white color temperature (4000 to 6500 Kelvin), a high CRI (90+), and features that reduce glare and flickering.
Q: What does 5000 K mean in lighting?
A: As seen on the graph, 5000 kelvin is a nice white but has a slight tint of yellow. People who choose this color are usually trying to get a more natural white light that appears less harsh to the eye.
Q: What is 5700 Kelvin color?
A:5700K lights produce a whiter light, which are perfect for if your drive is mainly going to be in wide open spaces or on long roads and areas were light reflection isn’t going to be an issue, as the whiter colour helps with more defined distance penetration, and can also pick out more details around the edges of the beam in open areas.
Q: What are the OSHA requirements for lighting?
Commercial LED lighting refers to fixtures engineered specifically for non-residential buildings and outdoor sites. Unlike residential lighting, commercial fixtures are designed around four requirements that residential products typically cannot meet: 1. Higher lumen output — commercial spaces have larger areas and higher ceilings, requiring 10,000 to 60,000 lumens per fixture versus 800–1,600 lumens for residential bulbs. 2. Wider voltage range — commercial fixtures support 100–277V (and sometimes 277–480V), accommodating three-phase and high-voltage circuits common in commercial buildings. 3. Code-compliant certifications — UL Listed, DLC Qualified and IP65/IP66 ratings are typically required by building inspectors, insurance carriers and utility rebate programs. 4. Durability for industrial environments — die-cast aluminum housings, IP-rated seals and operating temperature ranges (typically −22°F to 122°F) handle conditions residential fixtures cannot. Commercial LED fixtures are designed for higher lumen output (10,000–60,000 lm per fixture versus 800–1,600 lm for residential), wider voltage tolerance (100–277V instead of 120V only), code-required certifications (UL, DLC), IP-rated weatherproofing, and durability for environments residential fixtures cannot survive. A residential LED bulb in a warehouse application will typically fail within months.
Yes, in nearly all cases. NEC Article 110.3(B) requires installed electrical equipment to be listed by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (UL, ETL or CSA). Most building inspectors will fail an installation that uses uncertified fixtures, and commercial property insurance carriers can deny claims involving non-listed equipment.
