Step 1 — Identify the application. Match your space type to the categories above. Most commercial facilities use 2–4 different fixture types (e.g., a warehouse typically needs high bays inside, wall packs on the building exterior, and parking lot lights for the lot).

Step 2 — Confirm certification requirements. All commercial installations should be UL Listed (or cUL for Canada). If you plan to claim utility rebates, confirm the fixture is DLC Qualified. If the space has wet or washdown conditions, verify IP65 minimum. Hazardous environments require Class I or II ratings.

Q: What does 10 lumens mean?

A: Lumens (symbol: lm) measure the total amount of visible light emitted by a lamp or light source that is perceivable to the human eye. The higher the lumen output, the brighter the lamp will appear.

Q: Optimal LED light for work environments?

 A: The ideal LED light for work areas combines high brightness (8,000 to 20,000 lumens), a daylight to cool white color temperature (4000 to 6500 Kelvin), a high CRI (90+), and features that reduce glare and flickering.

Q: What does 5000 K mean in lighting?

A: As seen on the graph, 5000 kelvin is a nice white but has a slight tint of yellow. People who choose this color are usually trying to get a more natural white light that appears less harsh to the eye.

Q: What is 5700 Kelvin color?

A:5700K lights produce a whiter light, which are perfect for if your drive is mainly going to be in wide open spaces or on long roads and areas were light reflection isn’t going to be an issue, as the whiter colour helps with more defined distance penetration, and can also pick out more details around the edges of the beam in open areas.

A residential LED bulb in a warehouse application will typically fail within months.

  • Do I need UL listed fixtures for a commercial installation?

    Yes, in nearly all cases. NEC Article 110.3(B) requires installed electrical equipment to be listed by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (UL, ETL or CSA). Most building inspectors will fail an installation that uses uncertified fixtures, and commercial property insurance carriers can deny claims involving non-listed equipment.
